London-based producer, songwriter, and musician Kelly Lee Owens, known for her distinctive sound that brings together ambient and minimal techno, techno-pop, and dream-pop, is coming to Babylon with a DJ set on April 25!
About Kelly Lee Owens
While in high school, Kelly Lee Owens received two certificates: one for Music Lover of the Year and another for Daydreamer of the Year. This tendency to drift into what her mother affectionately called “Kelly’s World” laid the groundwork for her journey into becoming one of the most respected names in electronic music today, pushing the genre’s ethereal and emotional boundaries.
Her latest album, Dreamstate, stands as a manifesto dedicated to dreaming, healing, and choosing to look higher. The album also marks the debut release of dh2, the new electronic music imprint under Dirty Hit founded by George Daniel of The 1975.
Growing up in the Celtic landscapes of North Wales, Owens cites her deep connection to nature as a major source of inspiration for her music. Initially drawn to nursing as a way to channel her empathy, she found the courage to pursue music while working at a cancer hospital, encouraged by patients to follow her true passion.
Her encounter with analogue synthesizers became a turning point; techno’s repetitive structures and emotional intuition opened up a limitless creative space for her. Shaped in the aftermath of the pandemic and a romantic breakup, Dreamstate traces an inner journey from heartbreak to healing. For Owens, the album represents the element of air: collective dreaming, transcendence, and transformation together.
As one of the rare and revered women in the techno scene, Owens emphasizes the vital importance of dreaming—especially for those without support systems: “Give yourself permission to dream bigger.”
